Sofrito
Sofrito is a Puerto Ricans dream!
I'm sure you have read a million times on this blog about 'sofrito' well last night I decided to finally whip some up and save it for later to make some authentic Puerto Rican dishes.
Sofrito or sazon is the base for most Puerto Rican/Dominican dishes and can be added to beans, stews, rice.. just about anything, honestly. Every Sofrito recipe is different and of course, I learned this one from my Mom. This recipe is super easy to make and you can freeze in individual containers and use when you are ready to make a dish extra flavorful.
Try the recipe below!
- 1 bunch of cilantro
- 4-5 cloves of garlic
- 1 Spanish onion, roughly chopped
- 1 Cubanelle/Italian pepper, roughly chopped
- 1 green pepper, roughly chopped
1 red pepper, roughly chopped about
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon cumin
1 tablespoon sazon or 1 goya packet
- Salt & pepper
- EVOO (to drizzle)
This is the easiest recipe ever! Literally, cut all the ingredients to make sure they all fit in your food processor and process until it is your desired texture. Add salt, pepper, ACV and your other seasonings to taste and drizzle some EVOO to make sure its smooth. Sofrito can last about a week in the refrigerator but it is better to freeze it so it lasts longer.
Cheers to eating!
