shrimp wontons
Anyone else randomly get cravings in the middle of the day? Just me? No, I’m not pregnant lol but when I get the urge for something, I can’t get it out of my mind until I make it.
It was the first day back at work (it felt so weird after having two weeks off..sigh) and I was craving wontons because it’s that salty/savory flavor profile that I wanted. After I dropped off the laundry, I walked on over to my local grocery store and picked up wonton wrappers, some cabbage, green onions & ginger. I made these super quick shrimp wontons with a spicy soy sauce…it was amazing. I actually made two types..steamed & pan fried for the boo. Both were delish and a very satisfying & quick WFH lunch.
Note: you can find wonton wrappers at your local grocery store. Most of the times they are in the produce section because they need to be refrigerated or sometimes they are in the freezer section with the puff pastry. The international market has a ton too, wherever you live! If you can’t find them, ask an associate or buy them on amazon - here.
Try it below!
Ingredients
1/2 lb raw shrimp, cut into small bite size pieces
2 garlic cloves, finely minced or grated
3 green onions, finely chopped
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (just eye ball it)
1/4 cup green cabbage, finely chopped (optional, but I put them in my food processor)
1 tablespoon, soy sauce
salt & pepper, to taste
1 pack of wonton wrapper
shot glass of water to seal the wontons
Quick Sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon maple syrup
2 heaping tablespoons spicy chili in oil ( I use Fly by Jing but you can find this one on amazon - here)
1/2 teaspoon sesame oil (a little goes a longggg way)
Directions
combine the raw shrimp, cabbage, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce salt & pepper in a bowl. Note: the raw shrimp gets cooked when you’re steaming or pan frying the wontons
pick up a wonton wrapper and dip your finger in water, line all 4 edges of wonton wrappers with your wet finger. fill the middle & then fold the wrapper in half to create a triangle and sealing the edges tight around the filling, then wet the corners & bring the corners together so it’s like a cute little wonton!
You can boil them in water for 3 minutes if you don’t have a steamer or pan fry them for 1-2 minutes on each side.
Sauce - combine everything in a bowl and adjust the taste depending on how you like it. More spice or more sweetness!
Add steamed or pan fried wontons in a bowl and pour the sauce all over! ENJOY!
